Mature bananas have a leading role in activating groups of defenders of the immune system, in turn, responsible for creating a substance called TNF-alpha, which acts directly in the fight against cancer.
Whether for health reasons or just because you feel like making a culinary recipe that demands mature bananas, know that there are effective methods to mature bananas rapidly in a natural way.
How to mature bananas fast
There are several methods that can be used to mature those green bananas at home. Here we present the simplest and most effective you can experience.
1. Place the bananas inside a paper bag
You can also use newspaper sheets. The banana releases ethylene gas, responsible for stimulating ripening. If “imprisoning” the bananas inside the bag and closing it, it will prevent the leak from that gas, accelerating the process. Moreover, if you add other fruits to the bag, this process can be even faster and more efficient.
Fruits such as apples, pears, avocados or Kiwis release the same form ethylene gas, contributing to the ripening of the fruits around them. Therefore, add very mature fruits to the sack, or make them a cut to release more gas. If you put the bag in a hot spot, better! The high temperature will increase the production of ethylene gas.
2. Heat the banana in the oven
This method is particularly useful if you want to make a recipe with mature bananas. To do so, preheat the oven to a temperature between 77 °c and 150 °c, whichever is the ripe or fully black bananas. Place the bananas on a baking dish previously lined with vegetable paper and place them in the oven. Let them bake for about 20 minutes or until the typical black spots appear on the bark. Remove them when they are ripe enough. If you intend to use them in a recipe, let them roast for about 50 minutes.
3. Store the bananas in the oven during the night
This method is similar to the first, with the advantage of storing the bananas in a closed place, and with a higher temperature. Just stay stored and one night, and you’ll notice the effects the next morning! If you are not yet at the desired point, let them rest for a few more hours, or use method number 2.
4. Never place them in the freezer
If you bought extra bananas and want to save them, don’t keep them in the freezer. Then the temperature is too low and prevents the natural ripening process. The main problem is that even after removing them, the banana can be chemically altered and no longer ripen properly. Ripening has to be given at room temperature so it never conserves them like this. If you really need to keep them, let them mature first until they are edible, and then you must store them in the freezer.
These are the most common and effective methods to make bananas mature rapidly and enjoy all their benefits. Depending on your condition of vegetables it is possible to maturely ripen a banana in about 24 hours without using the oven in the process.
