How to Get Rid of Tent Worms – There are three equally annoying varieties of worms tent: tent, Oriental tent, and spongy forest. Tent worms can cause significant defoliation of deciduous trees, depending on the severity of the epidemic. If you feel frustrated by an outbreak of Worms tent, there are a few things to do to try to control these prolific insects.
How to Get Rid of Tent Worms
- Manually remove tent and egg nests during nightfall or early morning. Look for the egg first thing in the spring. Tent worms are usually reproducing through July. Place the nests in soapy water.
- Install sticky strips or sticky shaft encapsulated at the base of the trees to catch the worms went up or down the trees. Although very effective, you have to stay on and remove “full” sticky traps and replace them regularly.
- Apply Microwell insecticides, especially to trees with multiple nests. Bacillus Thuringiensis (BT) is the most common. As BT is present naturally in soil and on plants, it is also safe for people, animals and plants, but is not specific to what species of young moth larvae or butterflies it kills.
- Encourage natural predators by setting up bird houses, bat houses and studying the beneficial/parasitic insects of purchases.
